LIV Fantasy: Battle of Hong Kong Headed for Another Dramatic Playoff?

LIV returns to action this weekend after a short hiatus. The field is headed to the Far East for the month of March and will kick off the excitement in at the Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling!

Last season Hong Kong featured one of the most exciting individual playoffs between Cam Smith, Paul Casey, and eventual champion Abraham Ancer.

Ancer and the rest of the Fireballs are coming into this weekend red hot after winning the team trophy in convincing fashion in Adelaide.

We are proud to bring you the last LIV Fantasy rankings of the 2025 season! Let’s examine our picks for the five groups.

Picks by Group

  1. Joaquin Niemann – Niemann has established his dominance early in the season for a second consecutive year, winning LIV Adelaide by shooting a 65 on Sunday in what turned out to be a surprisingly difficult course compared to 2024. Last season Niemann placed T4 at the Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling. While he did not conquer the course outright, we’re expecting his form and experience will propel Niemann to a Top 5 finish if not an outright win. Recent success paired with previous knowledge of Hong Kong makes Niemann the premier fantasy option of the week.
  1. Abraham Ancer – For a second week in a row Group 2 boasts the most competitive field, which also makes this selection extremely difficult. You can’t go wrong here with Abraham Ancer or Carlos Ortiz, both of whom finished T2 in Adelaide, but we give Ancer the edge as he is the reigning champion of Hong Kong after defeating Paul Casey and Cam Smith in last season’s three-way playoff match.
  1. Henrik Stenson – Stenson rebounded from a poor performance in Riyadh with a T12 finish at Adelaide. The Majesticks have had two straight tournaments that could have resulted in a podium finish had it not been for one player dragging down the stretch. We predict Stenson stays on course with his current form, and like Abraham Ancer, we are taking into consideration that his T8 finish in Hong Kong last season will result in another great finish.
  1. Patrick Reed – You can look at Group 4 one of two ways. It is either a complete guessing game or you can go with the only choice that makes any sense. After two tournaments the lowest-performing golfers have been shoved into the basement that is Group 4. Of those who competed in Hong Kong last season, none did particularly well with Matt Jones finishing highest in the standings amongst the current Group 4 field. Patrick Reed is my pick here for two reasons. First, he recently won in Hong Kong on The International Series in 2024, which included shooting a round of 59. Second, simply because we know what Patrick is capable of despite the fact that he has not shown up on the leaderboard as of late.
  1. Paul Casey – Casey has been decent in 2025 but not great. In 2024 Casey and Cam Smith bogeyed the playoff hole to open the door for Abraham Ancer’s eventual win. The Crushers did however win the team championship at Hong Kong and Casey was the biggest reason why they were able to squeak out a two-stroke win over Torque.

Picks for Team

  1. Torque –With only two tournaments under their belt, Torque has put a man in the Top 3 of the standings three times already this season. (Riyadh: Munoz T2; Adelaide: Niemann 1, Ortiz T2). All three Torque players are a threat to win this weekend and they only need Pereira to not hurt them too much in order to have a relatively easy path to victory. Would you believe Torque hasn’t won a team trophy since Greenbrier in 2023? This squad is more than overdue to reestablish themselves as one of LIV’s premier teams.
  1. Crushers – DeChambeau’s Crushers are following last year’s formula: no individual flashiness, just solid team play which has earned them back-to-back 4th place finishes in Riyadh and Adelaide. The lacklustre play of Charles Howell III up to this point doesn’t concern me, as his bounce back is inevitable. Like Torque, they need only three teammates in Lahiri, DeChambeau, and Casey to have a good weekend to ensure a podium finish. If the lack of an individual champion over the course of the past two seasons concerns you, Fireballs is an excellent alternative.

Remember to set your fantasy roster before Thursday night when LIV returns to action in Hong Kong!
