Unlock the Secret to a Sharper Short Game: Why COBRA Golf King Wedges Are Your Answer

COBRA King Wedges are here, and if you’re even remotely interested in shaving a few strokes off your scorecard, you’ll want to keep reading.

I’ve seen plenty of clubs promising more spin, better feel, and surgical precision around the greens, but these new wedges just might live up to their bold billing.

COBRA Golf, renowned for its boundary-pushing designs, decided to throw the kitchen sink at their latest creation, starting with MIM (Metal Injection Molding).

This high-heat process—nearly 1400 °C, if you’re keeping score—tightens the grain structure of each wedge to an eyebrow-raising degree, delivering that coveted softer touch and more consistent performance.

Then there’s Flight Window Technology (F.W.T.), which optimally positions the centre of gravity for each loft range—low (48°-52°), mid (54°-56°), or high (58°-60°).

Translation: more penetrating ball flights with spin you can actually rely on. The team also introduced Progressive Spin Technology, modifying groove shapes from tight, deep channels in lower lofts to broader, shallower ones in higher lofts. It’s a bit like having a short-game Swiss Army knife in your bag.

“Achieving optimum spin and trajectory control on wedge shots is key to scoring,” said Chad DeHart, Sr. Product Line Manager at Cobra Golf.

“MIM technology helps us produce wedges with tighter tolerances for exceptional consistency while F.W.T. allows for optimal CG location throughout the full range of lofts.

Together the two technologies, with the addition of the new grind options, provide golfers the ultimate versatility in our most advanced wedges to date.”

And speaking of grinds, you’ve got four to choose from:

  • DROP (D) grind: A medium-width sole with higher bounce and minimal trailing edge relief, perfect for steeper swings and softer conditions.
  • WIDELOW (W) grind: A wide, low-bounce sole designed to keep you from digging in too deep, especially helpful in soft bunkers and lush turf.
  • VERSATILE (V) grind: Ideal for mid-to-firm conditions, offering relief in the toe, heel, and trailing edge.
  • TOUR (T) grind: Engineered with the help of Tour pros, providing maximum heel and toe relief for supreme versatility in tight spots.

To top it off, there’s a new Speed Notch carved into the sole—67% bigger than before—for cleaner turf interaction and, yes, more spin.

These wedges come in Satin Chrome, Black QPQ, or RAW finishes, each clocking in at £139 with True Temper DG Tour Issue Spinner steel shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips as standard.

If you crave a little extra forgiveness, the fresh KING-X Wedge might be your sweet spot.

It’s essentially a cavity-backed, MIM-forged design with a deep undercut to shift weight to the club’s perimeter, making off-centre hits far less punishing.

It also sports a progressive teardrop grind for solid all-around performance. The KING-X comes in the same lofts as its sibling and is priced at £139 with either the True Temper Vector steel shaft or the KBS PGI graphite shaft.

Both the new COBRA King Wedges and the KING-X Wedges will be available at retail on March 6, 2025.
