Vokey WedgeWorks A Grind vs. L Grind: Which Low-Bounce Wedge Is Right for You?

If you’re on the hunt for a wedge that glides through firm turf like a swan on a calm pond, the new Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks A Grind might just be your ticket.

This low-bounce lob wedge, now offered in 58- and 60-degree lofts features 4 degrees of bounce and a narrow, smoothed-out sole designed for players who prefer a fast, silky feel through the turf—particularly from firm fairways and bunkers.

Born from Collaboration

The A Grind was hatched thanks to a conversation between Vokey Tour Representative Aaron Dill and 2006 U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy, who wanted a wedge that zipped through firm ground even more easily than his trusty L Grind.

After hearing Ogilvy’s thoughts, Dill pared down the ribbon on the L Grind, streamlining the sole so it cut through the turf with less resistance.

“I asked Geoff how Australian courses compare to the rest of the globe,” Dill says.

“We realised we needed another lob wedge grind for firm, links-style surfaces. Geoff was already a low-bounce player, so I took his 60 L Grind and smoothed it out.

Suddenly, we had a wedge that moves through the turf with almost no resistance.”

With very little bounce, the A Grind demands precise contact, rewarding skilled ball strikers who seek a higher flight from tight lies.

SM10 Technology

  • High and Forward CG Progression: In lofts from 54 to 62 degrees, the center of gravity is nudged both up and forward. The result? A lower, more penetrating trajectory with plenty of spin—and a wedge face that wants to square up right at impact.
  • Patented Spin Milled Grooves: Each groove on the SM10 is cut to the edge for maximum grip. Every wedge is inspected to ensure you’re getting the most spin and control humanly possible.

FAQs

How is the WedgeWorks A Grind different from the WedgeWorks L Grind?

It all starts with the L Grind’s ribbon.

When that ribbon is smoothed out, the wedge becomes the A Grind. If you find the ribbon on the L occasionally catching or bouncing off the turf, the A Grind’s sleeker sole might just feel like butter.

And the WedgeWorks A Grind vs. the WedgeWorks A+ Grind?

The A+ Grind is essentially a beefed-up version of the A. That “plus” means added sole width and bounce, so it still feels smooth but digs even less than the standard A Grind.

For those who crave crisp contact and a simplified way to get under the ball, the Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks A Grind sets a high bar.
