Golf’s Greatest Holes returns to Sky Sports next week, premiering its highly anticipated third series on Tuesday, 28 January at 18:00 GMT.
Titled The Open Special, this latest instalment takes viewers on a captivating tour of Royal Portrush Golf Club’s iconic Dunluce Links—just in time for the venue’s moment in the spotlight at the 153rd Open Championship this July.
Across six brand-new episodes—airing every Tuesday—hosts Paul McGinley and Chris Hollins delve into the majesty of Royal Portrush, joined by local golfing hero Darren Clarke and proud Portrush resident James Nesbitt.
Clarke, a 2011 Champion Golfer and Honorary Club Member, brings a winner’s perspective, while Nesbitt’s trademark humour and hometown pride give a lively twist to the series.
“As well as showing Chris the breathtaking Dunluce Links at my home club, we also treated him to some classic Irish hospitality—maybe that’s why he couldn’t hit a ball all week,” joked Nesbitt.
“I’m thrilled to welcome the world’s best golfers back to the best place in the world this summer, and here’s hoping for another Irish victory!”
This season marks the first time McGinley—a former winning Ryder Cup captain—has shone the spotlight on more than one hole from a single course.
Spectators will see why Royal Portrush is earning fresh acclaim as he and Hollins showcase the layout’s unique challenges and dramatic coastal scenery.
The show’s previous two seasons highlighted standout holes across Ireland (including the upcoming 2027 Ryder Cup venue, Adare Manor) and ventured into the sun-soaked fairways of Portugal.
Sponsored by Ci Global—an innovative British company dedicated to protecting people and property—along with Your Golf Travel, Motocaddy, and Galvin Green, The Open Special doesn’t just celebrate Royal Portrush’s top-tier golf.
It also spotlights the region’s world-famous attractions, thanks to the support of Tourism Ireland. Expect breathtaking footage of the Giant’s Causeway, Bushmills Distillery, Titanic Belfast, and Portrush Harbour.
“With The Open returning to Northern Ireland, this series is a fantastic chance to shine a global spotlight on our championship courses and alluring visitor experiences,” said Judith Cassidy, Tourism Ireland’s Acting Head of Great Britain.
Filmed in stunning 4K ultra-high definition—and supported by expert drone footage—Golf’s Greatest Holes: The Open Special will be shown in more than 180 countries, including the USA, China, and Australia. North American golf fans can watch on NBC from March.
“Walking the fairways at Portrush with Irish golf royalty and James Nesbitt was an experience I won’t soon forget,” Hollins remarked.
“The warmth of the local community and the sheer beauty of the Dunluce Links will be a highlight for anyone tuning in, and it’s one of those places you fall in love with instantly.”
Following the show’s remarkable global reach—an estimated 1 billion non-unique households and some 50 million digital viewers to date—this new season promises to keep the momentum rolling.
Don’t miss Golf’s Greatest Holes – The Open Special when it hits Sky Sports next Tuesday, and see firsthand why Royal Portrush is a must-play course on every golfer’s bucket list.
