The International Series Showdown: Catlin, Campbell, and the LIV Golf Battle Ahead

John Catlin and Ben Campbell, two of the biggest names in The International Series Rankings this season, are gearing up for the LIV Golf Promotions event—a pressure cooker where the reward is a golden ticket to the 2025 LIV Golf League.

Both players are coming off incredible seasons and seem pretty chuffed with their chances.

It’s safe to say they’re not just here to make up the numbers; they’re here to win.

A Competitive Field for the LIV Golf Promotions

The three-day, four-round tournament at Riyadh Golf Club promises intense competition.

Joining Catlin and Campbell are The International Series champs Richard T. Lee, Lee Chieh-Po, and MJ Maguire.

But let’s not kid ourselves—this isn’t going to be a stroll in the park. They’re up against some heavy hitters: relegated LIV Golf League players, top dogs from other tours, and the best 20 from round one.

Come Saturday, it all boils down to one golden spot in the LIV Golf League. Talk about a high-stakes showdown.

Catlin: Confidence from a Stellar Season

American John Catlin, 34, comes into this tournament riding a wave of top-notch form.

His season reads like a highlight reel: two wins on The International Series, the Asian Tour Order of Merit title, and even teeing it up in major championships.

Toss in his time as a LIV Golf League alternate, and it’s clear he’s got the chops to make a serious run at this.

Catlin is no stranger to success at Riyadh Golf Club, having clinched the Saudi Open presented by PIF on this very course in April.

Just a month earlier, he triumphed in a playoff at the International Series Macau.

Reflecting on his recent performance, including a final-round 65 at the PIF Saudi International, Catlin remains optimistic:

“Whenever we tee it up, we are trying to win. That is why you put in all the hours, the practice, and you see what you have got when it comes down to those last few shots on Saturday afternoon.

“I like my chances. I think it comes down to playing good golf, and I have done a lot of that this year, and hopefully I can keep doing it.

“I played really well here in April, and they made some changes to the course, so it was good to have a strong finish on that back nine (last week in Riyadh).

To shoot five-under on that back nine, for a 65, I was like, yeah, it is nice to build on for this week. I showed that I can still play pretty well here.”

Campbell’s Strong Campaign

New Zealander Ben Campbell, 33, is equally determined to make his mark. His season highlights include a dramatic playoff victory over Catlin at the International Series Morocco and five top-10 finishes.

These performances underscore his consistency and ability to thrive under pressure.

Campbell’s fourth-place finish at the season finale in Riyadh was particularly impressive.

Consecutive seven-under rounds over the weekend left him just one shot shy of a playoff with LIV Golf stars Joaquin Niemann, Cam Smith, and Caleb Surratt.

Although narrowly missing out on the top spot in The International Series Rankings, Campbell remains positive:

“It was very close, it wasn’t far away (losing out on a play-off place by a single shot).

There are still things to build on and there are things to improve within my game for next year so that is exciting.

“I just need to reset after some rest and practice and get ready to go again. You put in the practice and then you go out there and play – you either play well or you don’t.

Overall, it has been a solid year for me, and I feel I have learned a lot, and to me, my game is still going in the right direction which is a positive.”

A Thrilling Conclusion

As the competition heats up, all eyes will be on Catlin, Campbell, and their rivals as they battle for the ultimate prize.

With their proven track records and determination, these two players are primed to take centre stage in one of the most anticipated events of the year.
