In a compelling blend of endurance and empathy, Isaac Rowlands, assistant pro at The Grove, is gearing up for a record-breaking attempt that stretches beyond the greens and into the heart of philanthropy.
Next year, Isaac will embark on what might just be the longest golf marathon ever, aiming for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records while swinging to support Macmillan Cancer Support.
Stationed at the stunning Lofoten Links in Norway, Isaac plans to leverage the surreal phenomenon of the midnight sun to play through 32 consecutive hours.
This isn’t just about setting a record; it’s a profound journey back to the days following his personal health scare with lymphoma at 19, an experience punctuated by surgeries and uncertainty, where Macmillan’s support was his solace.
Isaac vividly recalls the warmth and aid provided by Macmillan during his ordeal, and he’s driven to ensure that others facing similar battles receive the same exemplary care.
“Macmillan were so helpful, and all of the staff were really lovely. A close friend has also just recently undergone a cancer operation and said the same thing, so I would want others in the same situation to continue to get this level of support,” Isaac shares, reflecting on both his and a close friend’s experiences with the support network.
“It will be quite the challenge to play for that long, but I couldn’t wish for a more inspiring venue to do it, and I’d like to thank the people at Lofoten Links for their support in making this happen,” he adds, underlining his motive for this daunting challenge.
The choice of venue, Lofoten Links, is as strategic as it is scenic. Known as the world’s northernmost links course, it promises a backdrop of Arctic Circle’s archipelagos and mountains—an inspiring setting for a feat of such magnitude.
Isaac’s connection to spectacular coastal destinations isn’t new; his previous tenure at The Machrie on Scotland’s Isle of Islay has seasoned him well for what’s to come.
Joel Westwell, Director of Golf at The Grove, voices the collective pride and a touch of envy from the team, “We’re very proud at The Grove to be supporting Isaac, while many of us are envious of him playing in such an incredible venue!
Although we love playing golf this is a seriously physical challenge, and we will be supporting him through training programmes to ensure he’s in the best shape possible. I would urge everyone to give generously for such an amazing cause.”
Joel emphasises the seriousness of this physical challenge and the community’s commitment to supporting Isaac through rigorous training programs to ensure peak conditions.
This endeavour is not just a test of physical stamina but a profound act of community and charity.
As The Grove celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, renowned for its exceptional service and inclusive atmosphere, it continues to champion causes that resonate deeply with its ethos.
For those moved by Isaac’s courage and commitment, opportunities to contribute to this noble cause are but a click away, with hopes that every contribution amplifies the support that organisations like Macmillan can offer.
Join Isaac in making a difference, where every hole played is a step closer to hope for many battling cancer.
