In a display that could only be described as sheer golfing magic, Mark Power blasted his way to the top of the leaderboard at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge.
With the Finnish Golf Union throwing in their lot to boost the event at the Vierumäki Resort, Power didn’t just play; he practically set the course on fire with a blistering eight-under 64.
Starting from the back nine, our man Power flung birdies around like confetti, carding four in his opening nine to make the turn at a tidy four under. But he wasn’t done there.
The back nine witnessed an eagle, three more birdies, and a minor hiccup of a bogey, putting him a whisker ahead of Clément Berardo from France.
Grinning from ear to ear, Power shared, “It was a good day out there. Eight under is my lowest round in a long time and the conditions were beautiful out there.”
It seems like the secret sauce was a mix of dynamite driving and pinpoint putting. He elaborated, “Driving and putting was the strongest part of my game today.”
Despite being 118th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings, Power’s not just making up the numbers.
After a strong showing at the Irish Challenge, he’s feeling bullish. “I played really well in Ireland a couple of weeks ago at The K Club and confidence is definitely high for me at the moment,” he asserted, eyeing a future loaded with promise and hopefully, more rounds like today.
Tomorrow, Power tees off alongside England’s Josh Hilleard and Austria’s Max Lechner at 2:20 PM, after the course opens up at 7:30 AM.
With a dozen contenders including England’s Jack Senior and Spain’s Alejandro Aguilera all tied at six under, the leaderboard is as packed as a pub on quiz night.
Mark Power, leading the charge at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge, certainly turned heads today. If he keeps this up, the weekend could be one for the books!
