The PGA High School Golf National Invitational: A Triumphant Return to Pinehurst

The first hole at No. 2

Listen up all you young golf lovers out there, grab your clubs and get ready for some thrilling news!

The PGA High School Golf National Invitational, that star-studded showcase of young talent, is heading back to Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina starting in 2025.

And not just for a one-off event; it’s a three-year run that promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

Pinehurst isn’t new to this gig. They hosted the event from 2020 to 2022, and those years were nothing short of magical.

Imagine the top high school golfers from nearly every state—winners of their state championships—competing on some of the most legendary courses in the country.

It’s like watching the next Tiger Woods or Annika Sörenstam emerge before your eyes.

This invitational is no walk in the park. Over three days and 54 holes of stroke play, both individual and team champions will be crowned.

And the winners? They earn spots in the Junior PGA Championships and the North & South Junior Championship. Talk about high stakes!

PGA of America President John Lindert is over the moon about the return to Pinehurst.

“We are ecstatic to take this great event back to another elite destination in Pinehurst,” he said.

“This Invitational continues to grow and showcase the talented young stars of our game. We look forward to seeing the action unfold in North Carolina over the next three years.”

And Pinehurst isn’t just any old golf course. Opened 130 years ago, it boasts 10 18-hole courses and has hosted countless championships, including the upcoming 2024 U.S. Open.

Matt Barksdale, Pinehurst’s Director of Golf, can’t wait to welcome back these young golfers.

“As the home of American golf, we are steeped in history of hosting the best amateurs in the game,” he said.

“We look forward to welcoming back the PGA High School National Invitational to Pinehurst Resort and Country Club to continue on with that legacy.”

Just to give you a taste of last year’s drama: The 2024 Invitational in Texas saw Georgia’s boys’ team clinch their third consecutive title with a record-breaking score of 12-under-par 852.

Josiah Hakala of New Hampshire took individual honours with a stunning 14-under par 202.

On the girls’ side, California’s team dominated with a 55-under-par 809, and Leigh Chien from California won a thrilling 4-hole playoff to take the individual title.

So, mark your calendars for 2025. The PGA High School Golf National Invitational at Pinehurst promises to be a festival of incredible drives, precise putts, and young golfers making their mark on the sport’s history. You won’t want to miss it!
