In a heartfelt tribute to their remarkable contributions to golf, Thomas Bjørn, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, and Paul McGinley have been awarded Honourary Life Membership of the DP World Tour.

This prestigious accolade, presented ahead of The Senior Open Presented by Rolex, honours their significant impact on both the DP World Tour and the Ryder Cup.

Recognition of Service and Achievement

The DP World Tour Chief Executive, Guy Kinnings, had the honour of presenting the honorary membership cards to these golfing legends.

Approved by the European Tour Group Board of Directors, this recognition highlights their outstanding careers and unwavering dedication.

They join an exclusive group of just 62 members, a tradition initiated by the tour’s founding father, John Jacobs, in 1978.

Kinnings emphasised their extensive contributions, stating, “Honourary Life Membership is recognition for those who have contributed so much to the Tour both inside and outside the ropes.

These three players have given everything to the Tour and have shaped the Tour with both their play and their personalities.”

Thomas Bjørn: Denmark’s Golfing Pioneer

Thomas Bjørn stands as Denmark’s most successful golfer, boasting 15 DP World Tour wins over a stellar 30-year career.

His influence transcends the course, inspiring a new generation of Danish golfers.

Bjørn’s Ryder Cup career includes three victorious appearances as a player and a memorable stint as Captain in 2018, leading Europe to triumph over the United States at Le Golf National.

Reflecting on this honour, Bjørn shared, “I think it shows dedication to the Tour for a long time…

I’ve been a member for almost 30 years, so it’s a great honour and I think it shows great respect that you’ve served the Tour and that you’ve done the right things.”

Miguel Ángel Jiménez: The Enduring Spaniard

Miguel Ángel Jiménez’s legacy is marked by longevity and success. With 21 DP World Tour wins and 722 appearances, he’s second only to David Howell in tour history.

Known for his vibrant personality and unique style, Jiménez also holds the record as the oldest winner of a European Tour event, achieving victory at the 2014 Open de España at 50 years old.

Expressing his gratitude, Jiménez said, “Golf has given me everything in life and I’m very proud to be part of this world…

It’s great to be a part of this world and the fact I have now joined this group and am part of that history is very special.”

Paul McGinley: The Strategic Irishman

Paul McGinley, with four DP World Tour wins and 578 appearances, has played a pivotal role in European golf.

His Ryder Cup contributions include participating in three consecutive winning teams and captaining Europe to a dominant victory in 2014 at Gleneagles.

Recently named a Strategic Adviser to the European Ryder Cup Team, McGinley’s influence continues to shape the future of the sport.

McGinley remarked, “It’s obviously a great honour and I think it’s not just a recognition of me as a player but the work put in behind the scenes…

I’m European Tour Group through and through and I’ve got its best interests at heart.”

A Celebrated Legacy

The honorary membership of Bjørn, Jiménez, and McGinley reflects their exceptional careers and unwavering dedication to the sport.

Their contributions have not only enriched the DP World Tour but have also inspired countless golfers worldwide.

As they continue to shape the future of golf in various roles, their legacy remains a testament to their passion and commitment.
