Robert MacIntyre clinched an emotional home victory at the Genesis Scottish Open, claiming his first Rolex Series title with a breathtaking finish. The Scottish favorite, who narrowly missed out on the title last year to Rory McIlroy, thrilled his fans with a performance for the ages at The Renaissance Club.
MacIntyre’s determination shone through on the back nine as he trailed by three shots. He made a pivotal long putt on the 14th, followed by an incredible eagle on the 16th after a stunning approach from the rough to six feet. His crowning moment came with a 22-foot birdie on the last hole, sealing his victory and igniting wild celebrations among the spectators.
His final round of 67 saw him finish at 18 under, one shot ahead of Australia’s Adam Scott and two clear of France’s Romain Langasque.
Reflecting on his journey, MacIntyre had been vocal about his desire to win Scotland’s national open, especially after the heartbreak of 2023 when McIlroy’s late-game brilliance edged him out. This victory marks a significant milestone for MacIntyre, who has since been part of a victorious European Ryder Cup team and secured his first two wins on the PGA TOUR.
This triumph could propel MacIntyre to 16th in the Official World Golf Ranking, moving him to third in the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex, and top of the Closing Swing Rankings. Yet, it’s the honor of being the first Scottish winner of this event since Colin Montgomerie 25 years ago that he holds dearest.
Joining MacIntyre at Royal Troon will be Englishmen Aaron Rai and Richard Mansell, and Sweden’s Alex Noren, as they finished as the top three players not already exempt for the season’s final Major Championship. Rai finished at 14 under, alongside McIlroy, overnight leader Ludvig Åberg, South Korea’s Sungjae Im, and Americans Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala.
