In a spectacular blend of grit and finesse, John Parry snagged his third Challenge Tour title and second of the season at the Blot Open de Bretagne.
The Englishman, with the steely composure of a seasoned pro and the flair of a virtuoso, outdueled Sweden’s Per Längfors in a nail-biting play-off.
With this win, Parry firmly stamps his mark on the Road to Mallorca, proving once again that he’s a force to be reckoned with on the fairways.
Entering the final round with a comfortable three-shot lead, Parry posted a solid two-under-par final round of 68.
Despite his impressive performance, he found himself tied at 18-under with Längfors, who delivered a stunning five-under 65 at the Golf Bluegreen de Pléneuf Val André.
The tension was palpable as they headed into the play-off, where Parry’s composure and skill ultimately prevailed.
A par on the first trip up the last hole was enough to secure the win, as Längfors could only manage a bogey.
“It’s a fantastic feeling right now because I’ve put in a lot of hard work and it was a real grind today,” Parry remarked.
“I’m really pleased to win for the second time this season. I started off so well today and I thought I was going to run away with it.”
“I had a bit of a hiccup around the turn, but I managed to pull it back after that and it was a real fight down the stretch.”
“I hit a lot of good putts all day, but my pace was off. I think because I knew I was leading, I was a little bit defensive.”
“I showed some great determination to hole those putts on 16 and 17.”
Parry’s victory at the Blot Open de Bretagne adds to his impressive season, following his win at the Delhi Challenge in March.
With his eyes set firmly on automatic promotion to the DP World Tour, Parry is already looking ahead to securing a third victory this season.
“I’ve looked hard at the points, and I’ve pretty much secured my DP World Tour card for next season,” he said.
“I’m playing so well, and I’m going to try and get that third win of the season to earn automatic promotion.”
The competition at the Blot Open de Bretagne was fierce, with Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan finishing third at 13-under-par.
Spain’s Lucas Vacarisas was just a shot behind in fourth, while compatriot Borja Virto carded the low round of the day with an impressive eight-under 62, finishing fifth alongside Portugal’s Tomas Gouveia on 12-under.
Parry’s victory bolsters his position in second place on the Road to Mallorca Rankings with 962.78 points, trailing Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, who leads with 1,043 points.
Längfors’ impressive performance in France catapults him 80 places into 25th position on the rankings, marking his career-best Challenge Tour finish.
As the Road to Mallorca continues, the next stop is the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil from June 27-30, 2024.
Golf enthusiasts will undoubtedly be watching closely to see if Parry can maintain his momentum and achieve his goal of automatic promotion.
