In a breathtaking finale at the Kaskáda Golf Challenge, Hamish Brown delivered an astonishing birdie blitz to secure his maiden Challenge Tour title in Brno.
Brown’s performance on the final day was nothing short of spectacular, as he carded nine birdies and a single bogey to finish with an eight-under-par round of 63, culminating in an 18-under-par total for the week.
This impressive feat placed him two strokes clear of overnight leader Robin Williams.
Brown, a 25-year-old Dane, joined the ranks of his compatriots Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen as the third Danish winner on the 2024 Road to Mallorca.
Reflecting on his victory, Brown expressed his delight, saying, “It was a day when everything came off like I wanted it to. My wedges and putting really made my score today.”
The day’s events were a rollercoaster of emotions for Brown, who admitted to closely monitoring the leaderboard throughout.
“I said last night that somebody is probably going to shoot ten under par following the rain we had last night which made the course softer today and a bit more scoreable.”
“I didn’t think I was going to get near it, but I’m pretty happy with what I did do.”
Starting the day four shots behind South African Williams, Brown wasted no time closing the gap, birdieing three of his first four holes.
This early surge set the tone for a dominant performance, as he fired four more birdies in a five-hole stretch around the turn, taking the lead for the first time.
Despite a bogey on the 14th hole, Brown recovered swiftly, adding another birdie on the 15th and securing a two-shot lead with a final birdie on the 17th.
Brown’s victory propelled him from 31st to fifth in the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings, significantly boosting his chances of promotion to the DP World Tour.
However, Brown remains grounded, acknowledging that there is still a long way to go in the season.
“I don’t think this win changes too much,” he remarked. “We’re still only around midway through the season, so there’s a lot of golf to be played and I’ve got nowhere near enough points to secure promotion.”
“It’s nice, it’s what you want, but it’s more like a confidence boost for the next few weeks. I’m going to keep going because it’s not over until it’s over.”
German Jannik de Bruyn finished three shots behind Brown in third place, while Dane Lucas Bjerregaard and Englishman Ben Schmidt shared fourth place, each finishing 14 under par.
Finn Tapio Pulkkanen and Irishman Conor Purcell were one shot further back, tied for sixth at 13 under par.
The Road to Mallorca Rankings saw little change at the top, with Neergaard-Petersen maintaining his lead on 1,043 points.
Brown’s win catapulted him 26 places to fifth with 532 points, while Williams moved up 17 spots to sixth on 488 points.
Purcell’s sixth-place finish saw him climb to 20th, the final promotion place.
The Road to Mallorca continues next week with the Blot Open de Bretagne at Golf Bluegreen de Pléneuf Val André, taking place from June 20-23.
