In the stunning hills of Brno, Jannik de Bruyn has put on a show at the Kaskáda Golf Challenge, securing a two-stroke lead as we head into the weekend.
The young German has dazzled spectators at Golf Resort Kaskáda, carding six birdies and a solitary bogey to complete a five-under-par round of 66.
This performance brings him to a remarkable 13 under par for the week, placing him two shots clear of Spaniard David Borda and South African Robin Williams, who are tied for second.
The 24-year-old sensation followed up his brilliant eight under-par opening round of 63 with another stellar performance on day two.
De Bruyn was clearly delighted with his game, sharing his thoughts, “I’m very pleased with the two rounds so far and I’m looking forward to the weekend.
It was a similar round to yesterday where I hit many greens, many fairways, and I was only really in trouble once – on hole 16 – and I managed to make a par there.”
De Bruyn’s strategy was simple but effective: focus on hitting as many greens as possible.
“I know that it’s quite tough to shoot two good rounds in a row, and sometimes you have expectations of being able to do it again after the first.”
“I’d accepted that before today, and my plan was just to hit as many greens as possible and that’s what I managed to do.”
“By doing that, I was able to get chances out there, and I managed to take care of them,” he explained.
His current form isn’t a fluke. De Bruyn led after the opening round of the European Open on the DP World Tour just two weeks ago, finishing in a share of 18th place.
That performance provided a confidence boost heading into his eighth start of the year on the Road to Mallorca.
“It gave me a lot of confidence,” he said. “I felt like I had the ability to shoot a low score and it showed me that with everything in place, I could come here and hit a low one too.”
“That was the thing I had in mind entering this week. I was quite relaxed over the last two days, and that’s what I’ll focus on again over the next two.”
Finn Tapio Pulkkanen also made an impression, birdieing three of his closing four holes to reach nine under par for the week.
He shares fourth place with Dane Hamish Brown and German Maximilian Schmitt.
Meanwhile, five players sit one shot further back in seventh, including overnight leader Tomas Gouveia from Portugal, Italian Gregorio de Leo, Irishman Gary Hurley, Austrian Timon Baltl, and Oliver Lindell from Finland.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on De Bruyn to see if he can maintain his lead.
Round three gets underway at 7:00 am local time, with De Bruyn teeing off alongside Borda and Williams at 11:00 am.
The stage is set for an exciting weekend at the Kaskáda Golf Challenge, with top talent vying for the title.
