In a thrilling turn of events at the Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri, Marc Hammer of Germany and Niklas Lemke of Sweden have stormed to the forefront of the Challenge de Cádiz leaderboard, sharing a one-stroke lead as they head into the weekend.
Hammer, showing his prowess early in the second round, jumped to an impressive five under par 67, which included an eagle on the second hole. Lemke, not to be outdone, carded a solid three under 69, securing his place at the top alongside Hammer at seven under par.
Reflecting on his round, Hammer expressed satisfaction with his performance: “It was a pretty solid day.”
“I hit some good shots out there and I’m pleased with five under par. I just tried to avoid the trees off the tee and aim for the open side of the fairways and I hit a lot of stingers in the wind.”
His eagle on the second hole was a highlight of the day, setting the tone early on.
“I hit a big drive and then my three-wood in was perfect, which left me two-foot for eagle. It was a nice tap in to have,” he recounted.
Hammer, at just 25 years old, has already made history in the golfing world, becoming the first player to win two Official World Golf Ranking tournaments in the same week, across different countries, back in 2022.
Now, he sets his sights on another milestone: climbing the Road to Mallorca Rankings with a strong showing in Andalucía this weekend.
“I’m going to work on a couple of things now and take the same game plan into the weekend,” Hammer remarked.
“I’m looking for a confidence boost at some point and a good result this week would be great for my season.”
“I would love to climb the Rankings and start to target a spot in the top 20.”
Not far behind the leading duo, nine players share third place on six under par, including Oliver Bekker of South Africa, Clément Berardo of France, and Connor Mckinney of Australia, who eagled the par-four fourth hole for the second consecutive day.
As the competition heats up in Cádiz, Hammer and Lemke have set the stage for an exciting weekend battle at the Challenge de Cádiz.
Stay tuned as they strive to make their mark on the leaderboard and secure victory in this prestigious event.
