LIV Golf has introduced its first-ever mid-season trading window, aimed at enhancing teams’ chances to bolster their rosters during the ongoing season. Running from today until Sunday, June 9, teams can engage in negotiations for player swaps, provided both sides consent, with no alterations to player contracts permitted.
Furthermore, players in the final year of their contracts have the opportunity to discuss extensions with their current teams within this timeframe.
Greg Norman, Commissioner and CEO of LIV Golf, emphasized the league’s commitment to fostering competition growth.
“As LIV Golf grows, the League will continue to establish opportunities to strengthen the competition,” Norman stated.
He highlighted the trade window as a means for all 13 teams to refine their rosters, evaluating team composition and performance mid-season.
Norman underscored the move as aligning with global team sports’ traditions, promoting strategic player manoeuvres and enriching team narratives.
During the last off-season, significant player movements reshaped the league landscape.
Notably, Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC traded for Harold Varner III from RangeGoats GC in exchange for Peter Uihlein.
Additionally, Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats acquired Matthew Wolff from Smash GC, with Brooks Koepka’s team receiving Talor Gooch, the 2023 LIV Golf League Individual Champion, in return.
Carlos Ortiz, formerly of Fireballs GC, secured a top 24 finish in the previous season and opted for free agency to join Torque GC, creating an opening on the Fireballs roster, subsequently filled by Sergio Garcia’s signing of Open Zone free agent David Puig.
At the end of the 13th event, players in the top 24 Lock Zone secure their spots for the 2025 season.
Those in the 25-48 range in the Open Zone, whose contracts have expired, must either be re-signed by their current team or picked up by another.
Players ranking 49th and below in the Drop Zone are relegated out of the League and qualify for the 2024 LIV Golf Promotions tournament.
