Nelly Korda Makes LPGA Tour History with Fifth Consecutive Victory and Second Major Title

Nelly Korda’s dominance on the LPGA Tour continues as she captured her second major title at the Chevron Championship, solidifying her place in golf history.

This win marks her fifth consecutive victory, a feat achieved by only two other players in LPGA Tour history.

Korda’s streak also makes her the first American golfer to win five times in a season since 1999.

Despite starting the final round trailing by one shot, Korda’s chances of winning were relatively low at 32.3%.

However, her remarkable chip-in for birdie on the 10th hole drastically improved her odds to 91%.

Her consistent performance and steady nerves helped her hold off competitors, ultimately clinching a two-stroke win at 13-under par with rounds of 68-69-69-69.

Korda’s impressive winning streak places her in an elite group. Alongside fellow Team TaylorMade athlete Scottie Scheffler, they are only the second pair of World No. 1 golfers to win majors in consecutive weeks since the Rolex Rankings began in 2006.

Delving further into this and I’m guessing you all would like to know as well, just what equipment are both Korda and Scheffler using.

Well, both drive the ball with TaylorMade Qi10 drivers, highlighting the shared success of the TaylorMade equipment.

In addition to her skills, Korda’s equipment plays a crucial role in her success.

Here’s a breakdown of her “What’s In The Bag” (WITB) for the Chevron Championship:

Korda’s choice of the Qi10 Max driver is based on its look and feel, providing her with the confidence to hit any shot she desires.

The subtle blue face and silver topline create an aesthetic that helps her aim with precision.

Her decision to switch to the TP5x golf ball was driven by a desire to reduce spin, particularly on her driver and irons.

TaylorMade Senior Tour Manager Ressa previously said that testing in September showed that the TP5x reduced spin on Korda’s driver by a couple of hundred RPMs, giving her more control around the greens and a preferred trajectory.

Korda’s iron setup also underwent a critical change at the 2023 LPGA Drive On Championship in Phoenix.

The TaylorMade tour reps hard-stepped Korda’s irons to minimize draw and stiffen them slightly, leading to greater control and consistency. Since this adjustment, Korda has secured six victories worldwide.

Korda’s stock yardages reflect her well-rounded game. The success of her P·770 5-iron and P·7MC combo set is evident in her ability to hit greens with precision.

Her win at the Chevron Championship showcases her impressive skills and strategic approach to the game.
