It’s not every day that you hear about a 7-year-old rewriting the golf rule book.
On a sunny Sunday, young Walter Hall did just that at the Ross-on-Wye Golf Club, making a jaw-dropping debut that had the whole place buzzing.
Imagine this: it’s your first-ever round of golf. You’re just a kid and the clubs are almost as tall as you are.
Most folks spend a lifetime dreaming of a hole-in-one, but young Walt—our intrepid seven-year-old—just went out and did it.
His father Tim, doubling as caddy and cheerleader, watched his son face down the navy tees.
Walt’s earlier holes, though enthusiastic, were what you’d expect from a novice: 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 11.
But then came the 111-yard 7th, a hole that tests even seasoned players. Walt squared up, swung, and sent the ball flying straight and true, right into the hole. Yes, a hole-in-one!
Tim was over the moon, and who could blame him? “I’m super proud of Walt’s achievement,” he said, barely keeping the grin off his face. “To witness that shot? Absolutely amazing. And he’s bagged one before me!”
As the ball vanished into the cup—a magical moment that felt like something out of a movie for young Walt..
Walt himself was unfazed by his own prowess. “It feels amazing but can we play another nine holes after we finish?!” he asked, already itching for more.
This isn’t just a story about a young boy’s incredible shot; it’s about the spirit of golf itself, where every player, no matter how small, can have a giant moment.
Off the course, Walt trains in the seven-stage junior coaching program led by his dad at the Tim Hall School of Golf.
His hero, world number one Scottie Scheffler, also shone on the same day, winning a gold at the Olympics.
Walter’s hole-in-one is more than just a cool anecdote; it’s a signal to all the young would-be golfers that the fairways are ready for them, too.
Laura Yapp from England Golf Junior Development couldn’t agree more. “What a remarkable achievement for Walter, his dad, and his friends.
This is what inspires the next generation of golfers to pick up a club and start swinging.”
Instead of the traditional scotch at the clubhouse (he’ll have to wait a bit for that), Walt celebrated with a lively pizza party with his pals.
It was the perfect end to a day that was anything but ordinary. In the game of golf, as young Walter showed us, age is just a number, and sometimes, dreams come true much sooner than you think.
