The PGA of America revealed that the renowned Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina will be the esteemed host of the 2031 PGA Championship.
Simultaneously, the 2029 Girls and Boys Junior PGA Championships are slated to take place at The Ocean Course and Turtle Point Golf Course within the same resort.
This announcement marks a significant return for The Ocean Course, which previously showcased its prowess in hosting major golf events during the 2012 and 2021 PGA Championships.
Joining an elite group, The Ocean Course becomes only the ninth venue to host three or more PGA Championships. Notably, it has also been the stage for other prestigious tournaments such as the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 2005 PGA Professional Championship, and the 2007 Senior PGA Championship.
PGA of America President John Lindert expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We are ecstatic to bring the Junior PGA Championships and PGA Championship to The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in 2029 and 2031.”
He highlighted the course’s challenging layout and rich history, making it an ideal choice for these championships.
Memorable moments at The Ocean Course include Phil Mickelson’s historic victory in 2021, becoming the oldest men’s major champion in golf history.
Additionally, Rory McIlroy’s record-setting victory in 2012, and the intense finale of the 1991 Ryder Cup between Hale Irwin and Bernhard Langer, stand out in the course’s illustrious history.
The Junior PGA Championships, renowned for propelling emerging talents into the limelight, have seen future stars like Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, and Lexi Thompson compete in past editions.
