John Catlin clinched the 2024 Saudi Open presented by PIF championship, maintaining his lead throughout the tournament and finishing an impressive 24-under-par at Riyadh Golf Club.
His stellar performance culminated in a wire-to-wire victory, seven shots ahead of his closest competitor.
Catlin’s exceptional play began early in the tournament, and he maintained his momentum throughout.
Setting a men’s course record 62 on Friday, he followed it with another strong round of 66 on Saturday, marking his fourth consecutive round in the 60s in the Saudi capital.
This victory marks Catlin’s sixth Asian Tour title and his second consecutive win, following his triumph over David Puig at the International Series Macau in March. His exceptional form proved insurmountable for the competition.
Reflecting on his achievement, Catlin expressed his joy and gratitude, stating, “I am tired, but very, very happy.”
“I’ve never gone back-to-back like that. It is pretty special to finish back-to-back events holding the trophy. It was just a special week, and I feel very lucky to be the champion.”
He also offered words of inspiration to aspiring golfers, emphasizing the importance of hard work and dedication.
“I hope my victory shows the fans that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible,” Catlin remarked.
“If you want to follow in my footsteps, you have to put in the hard work and be willing to sacrifice, then great things can happen.”
Catlin commended the organisation of the 2024 Saudi Open presented by PIF, praising the hospitality and professionalism of the event. He eagerly anticipates returning to defend his title in 2025.
Runner-up Wade Ormsby acknowledged Catlin’s dominance, stating, “John had a big lead, it was difficult.
You just want to go out and play as well as you can.” Ormsby’s final day 64 secured him second place, two shots ahead of Peter Uihlein and Kiradech Aphinbarnrat in third.
Despite a disappointing Friday, reigning champion Denwit Boriboonsub finished strongly with a remarkable round of 63 on Saturday.
Reflecting on his experience, Boriboonsub expressed gratitude for his time at Riyadh Golf Club, highlighting the support and relief of retaining his status on the Asian Tour.
The 2024 Saudi Open presented by PIF showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship, with Catlin emerging as a deserving champion, setting the stage for an exciting future in golf.
